Admission in Sainik School

Navigating the admissions process for Sainik Schools can seem daunting, but understanding the key elements can make it manageable. Admission to Classes 6 and 9 across the 33 Sainik Schools in India is based on the All-India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE). This rigorous entrance test evaluates candidates, and their admission is determined through an e-counseling process, which considers their rank, medical fitness, and verification of documents.

The concept of domicile plays a critical role in the admissions process. Candidates are categorized as “Home State” or “Outside State” based on whether their domicile matches the state of the Sainik School they apply to. This classification affects their place in the merit list and subsequent admission chances.

Expanding Opportunities: New Sainik Schools

The Ministry of Defence has recently initiated a partnership program to establish New Sainik Schools in collaboration with NGOs, private entities, and state governments. These schools aim to expand the availability of Sainik School education, offering both the regular curriculum and an “Academic PLUS” curriculum, unique to the Sainik School system.

Admissions to these New Sainik Schools begin at the Class 6 level and follow the same AISSEE examination process. However, there are two distinct admission routes: a 40% route based purely on AISSEE rank and a 60% route for students already enrolled in these schools, ranked by individual school merit lists.

We have a dedicated section on New Sainik School. All the rules and scopes have been discussed in detail in this section.

Understanding the AISSEE Exam Format

The AISSEE is a crucial component of the admission process for Sainik Schools. It includes a series of multiple-choice questions designed to assess the student’s knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, Intelligence, Language, and General Knowledge for Class 6, and extends to include subjects like English, General Science, and Social Science for Class 9. The exam is conducted with a time limit of 150 minutes for Class 6 and 180 minutes for Class 9.

For an in-depth look at the AISSEE exam format and subject breakdown, read this section.
