Age Requirement for Sainik School Admission
  • Age of the student appearing for Class 6 must be between 10 and 12 years as of March 31 of the Exam year.
  • For example, if your child will appear in the All India Sainik School Entrance Exam 2025 Class 6, then his age must be between 10 and 12 years as of March 31 2025.
  • This means for any student to appear in AISSEE 2025, the student must be born between 1 April 2013 and 31st March 2015 (Both days inclusive)
  • This age limit is for both boys and girls who want to appear in class 5.
  • He/She should have passed Class 5 exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

Sainik School Eligibility for Class 9

  • Age of the student appearing for Class 9 must be between 13 and 15 years as of March 31 of the Exam year.
  • For example, if your child will appear in the All India Sainik School Entrance Exam 2025 Class 9, then his age must be between 13 and 15 years as of March 31 2025.
  • This means for any student to appear in AISSEE 2025 Class 9, the student must be born between 1 April 2010 and 31st March 2012 (Both days inclusive)
  • Admission for Girls is open for Class 9, subject to availability of vacancies. Age criteria is same as boys.
  • He/She should have passed Class 8 exam from a recognized school at the time of admission.

Eligibility for Admission to Approved New Sainik Schools

Eligibility Requirements under 40% Route

  • A candidate should be between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2025 for admission to Class 6, i.e. he/she should have been born between 01 April 2013 and 31 March 2015 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2025-26.
  • Admission for Girls is open for Class 6. Age criteria is same as for boys. Candidates are advised to check the availability of seats for girls from the website of the approved New Sainik School concerned.

Eligibility Requirements under 60% Route

  • A candidate should be between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2025 for admission to Class 6, i.e. he/she should have been born between 01 April 2013 and 31 March 2015 (both days inclusive) for admission to the academic year 2025-26.
  • Admission for Girls is open for Class 6. Age criteria is same as boys. Candidates are advised to check the availability of seats for girls from the website of the approved New Sainik School concerned.
  • Candidates should be studying in the approved New Sainik School where he is seeking admission and must have passed/appearing in Class 5 as on 31.03.2025.

Passing Marks Breakdown for Sainik Schools
  • A candidate is eligible for admission to the Sainik Schools, if he/ she secures a minimum of 25% marks in each subject of the exam and 40% marks in aggregate of all the subjects of AISSEE 2025. However, admission will be based on e-counselling as per the merit list of AISSEE – 2025, medical fitness and verification of requisite documents.
  • However, no minimum marks are prescribed for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe category. They will be admitted on the basis of inter-se merit at the Entrance Examination within their respective categories, subject to their meeting the eligibility requirements, medical fitness and verification of requisite documents.
  • In case an SC/ST/OBC(NCL) category candidate comes in the general merit on his/her own, he or she would be admitted against general seat and will not be adjusted against the reserved share of SC/ST/OBC(NCL) seats.
  • A candidate is eligible for admission to the approved New Sainik Schools, if he/ she secures a minimum of 25% marks in each subject of the exam and 40% marks in aggregate of all the subjects of AISSEE 2025. This criteria is applicable to all candidates who wish to seek admission to approved New Sainik Schools including SC/ST candidates. Criteria of domicile/category are not applicable for admission to approved New Sainik Schools.

    Yes, candidates seeking admission to Approved New Sainik Schools must also secure at least 25% in each subject of the AISSEE 2024 and 40% in aggregate. This applies to all candidates, including SC/ST.

  6. I am an SC/ST candidate. Do I need to meet a minimum marks requirement for Sainik School admission?
